Land Acquired For New School In Fishermans Bend
Minister for Education Ben Carroll announced yesterday the acquisition of land on Williamstown Road, Fishermans Bend, slated for the construction of a new primary school. Set to welcome students in early 2026, the school will accommodate up to 650 students from Prep to Grade 6, strategically positioned at the heart of Fishermans Bend in the Wirraway Precinct. This addition aligns with the area's rapid urban growth, offering essential educational infrastructure to support families in the evolving community.
What Killed Fishermans Bend?
Barely a decade ago, Fishermans Bend was Melbourne’s most ambitious urban development, promising to solve issues from housing affordability to local manufacturing. Despite the hype, a visit reveals little progress. EXCX’s research investigates the reasons behind this failure, questioning whether economic conditions, lack of a tram, or bureaucratic inefficiencies are to blame. The exhibition presents a whodunnit-style analysis, scrutinizing housing, jobs, public space, transport, and innovation. A collection of news clippings, photos, research, and drawings seeks to uncover the truth and propose future steps for Fishermans Bend’s development.

Disneyland Australia rumours finally addressed
Speculation about Disney's interest in establishing a theme park in Australia has been circulating for years, intensifying recently following the company's announcement of a $60 billion investment in its parks and experiences worldwide. Melbourne has been suggested as a potential location, with Werribee rumoured as a preferred site. However, hopes for a park in Victoria were quashed after Wyndham City Council stated no discussions had occurred regarding a "Disney-style" park. Despite Mayor Sally Capp's previous pitch for Fishermans Bend, the immediate future does not include plans for a Disney park in Australia. The closest option remains Shanghai Disneyland for Australian enthusiasts.
