Meet the Committee: Angelina Mirabito on Arts, Culture, and the Future of Fishermans Bend

As Fishermans Bend continues to evolve into Australia’s largest urban renewal precinct, the role of arts, culture and community will be just as important as housing, infrastructure and employment.

The Fishermans Bend Business Forum (FBBF) is pleased to welcome Angelina Mirabito to the Committee. An interdisciplinary artist, researcher and Creative Director of Romulus Folio Gallery, Angelina brings a unique perspective on how creative industries, cultural infrastructure, and community connection can contribute to a thriving precinct.

We spoke with Angelina about her work, why she joined the Fishermans Bend Business Forum, and the opportunities she sees for Fishermans Bend in the years ahead.

Tell us about yourself and your work outside FBBF

I’m an interdisciplinary artist and Creative Director of Romulus Folio Gallery, an independent artist-led gallery, studio, and cultural platform.

My practice sits at the intersection of contemporary art, design, architecture, and community engagement. Alongside my own studio practice, I have a PhD in the Therapeutic Value of Creative Writing and founded Romulus Folio, which focuses on immersive exhibitions, installations, workshops, and cultural programming that brings people together through art, conversation, and shared experience.

My work is deeply interested in how art can shape the emotional experience of place and become part of everyday life.

Why did you join the Fishermans Bend Business Forum?

I joined FBBF because I care about the future of Fishermans Bend and believe arts and culture have an important role to play in shaping that future.

Through Romulus Folio, I’ve seen firsthand how creative spaces can bring together residents, local businesses, artists and the wider community in meaningful ways. I’m excited to contribute to conversations around how Fishermans Bend continues to evolve and how we can help support a vibrant, connected and sustainable precinct as it grows.

What do you see as the key opportunities or challenges ahead?

Fishermans Bend is at an incredibly important moment of transformation. There is an enormous opportunity to shape the cultural identity and social life of the precinct as it grows.

One of the biggest opportunities ahead is ensuring that culture, wellbeing, community and creativity are recognised as essential infrastructure alongside business, housing and development.

There is huge potential for Fishermans Bend to become a leading example of how arts, design, enterprise and everyday life can exist together in a connected and thriving urban environment.

What do you enjoy most about working in Fishermans Bend?

What I enjoy most about Fishermans Bend is the sense of possibility.

It’s a place in transition, which creates room for ideas, experimentation and meaningful collaboration. There’s a unique energy here that feels open, ambitious and constantly evolving.

I’ve loved seeing artists, residents, local businesses and industry intersect in unexpected ways and genuinely build community together.

And finally, where's the best coffee in Fishermans Bend?

Foxtrot Cafe on Gladstone Street has been my go-to lately.
